Revolution - Season 2 Episode 12 - Recap - Captain Trips

NBC's Revolution gets really interesting this week. Miles Matheson (Billy Burke) and his band of misfits are finally not in immediate danger, and everything seems to be going okay for the Nevilles too (well, except Jason). Aaron isn't having a great time, but when is he ever?

Miles & Co. return to find Charlie and her Grandpa Gene have gone missing. The crew (Rachel, Miles, Monroe, and Conner) spy on the camp for a bit, learning by observation about the outbreak and that their pals are helping out. It's not enough, though, so Rachel volunteers to head into the camp and see what's up. Rachel Pop, and Charlie do not think this outbreak is quite what it seems and sneak themselves some corpse blood to prove it. Under the microscope, Rachel discovers that the disease making everyone sick was made in a lab. She suspects the outbreak is on purpose (which we of course know that it was). She eventually observes that the whole thing is basically a eugenics program. The disease is likely being passed through food or water and targeted at specific persons. Gene falls over ill, almost as if on cue. Oh no! I mean, I guess it makes sense to target him, but I still wasn't expecting it.

Now it's time for the boys to act. All the almost-villains (Conner, Monroe, and Miles) are on a sneak quest to find the cure hidden in the Patriot bunkers. Conner is rather hesitant at first, but the other two get him in on it. The store room is quite empty, so they've got to team back up with Rachel. They capture a Patriot leader and interrogate the crap outta him. And by "interrogate" of course I mean "inject him with diseased blood and demand the location of the cure". Miles and Monroe dress Conner up in a Patriot uniform and have him head into camp with their new pal. They find the cure, but are interrupted by a few gunmen. Whoops!

Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) catches his former wife Julia up on what happened to their son Jason last week, but it's nothing new. The scene is just a framing segment for a flashback portion. It's two years post-blackout and Jason is sick. Starving, even. Tom tries to rob some men in the woods for a bit of food, but they kick him into submission. Back in the present, Julia is sick with worry as her new husband's men keep Jason prisoner for stealing classified documents. Tom and Julia scheme to kill Tom's boss and then Doyle (Julia's hubby). Then it's past time again, and Julia is approaching the same men who'd beaten up Tom earlier in the flashback. She makes a sexual advance to earn some food, then heads into the tent with one of the two men. Tom immediately slashes the other man's throat, then takes the man's gun and goes to the tent, blowing away the other man in a single shot. In the now time, everything's gone to Hell. Tom comes in to initiate his half of the plan, to find Doyle and a team of Patriots holding Julia captive. Dang, everybody's plan are messing up this episode!

Aaron gets another crazy nanobot vision, this time taking the form of his recently-murdered girlfriend Cynthia. It compells him to go to yet another town, and to bring Priscilla. Priscilla is not into it, but then the nanotech does some convincing with a few fireflies and a spontaneously falling tree. Aaaand... that is all! aaron gets nothing else this episode. It's a good one, but I keep forgetting about the wacky nanobot stuff because it has all tended to focus on the monstrosity of post-apocalyptic human life. Well, check out the preview below, which seems to choose very odd points of focus.
