Report: Paula Abdul in talks to headline 'Star Search' reboot on ABC

Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly says:

Paula Abdul is straight up headed back to TV!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the ex-American Idol judge is finalizing a deal to headline an updated version of Star Search, the great-granddaddy of all televised singing competitions, for ABC. Abdul’s role is still being defined, but I hear it will likely include some combination of hosting and judging.

I wonder how this will affect the X Factor judging rumors. Or did Simon tell Paula that it's not happening and she's now taking the next best opportunity? A few months ago, I thought that her jewelry business on HSN was doing well enough for her to stop appearing on broadcast TV altogether -- hence leaving American Idol. I guess I was mistaken.
