Redeem Team Wins Gold Again - Men's Basketball Final - London 2012 Olympics - Results
Team USA won the rematch with Spain to take the gold medal in the Men's Basketball gold medal final at the London 2012 Olympics. This was a surprisingly entertaining game that came down to the last quarter to determine a winner and prove the win in Bejing wasn't just a fluke for the "Redeem Team."
Here are your game details and medal results:
I was still in high school when the original "Dream Team" steam rolled everyone on the way to a much hyped gold medal. Things have changed since then. The 2004 edition of the Dream Team lost in the semi-finals and ended up taking home the bronze medal, earning Lebron the nickname "Lebronze James."
Lebron would answer back as part of the gold medal winning "Redeem Team" of 2008, also versus Spain, but the rest of the world is starting to make strides towards catching up to the United States.
In 2012 Team Spain gave Team USA everything they could handle in this gold medal match. Team USA had just a one point lead going into the fourth quarter. Spain battled with everything they had, but when coach K put Lebron back in the game, after sitting him with four fouls, that seemed to be the shot in the arm the USA team needed to finally pull away.
Team USA would go up by double digits in the fourth, but Spain did not give up, closing the game to within six, but some key baskets down the stretch by Lebron James and Kobe Bryant helped keep the U.S. out in front. The final score would be 107-100.
Both Kobe Bryant and Coach K say this will be their last Olympics. Coach K goes out with a record of 62-1.
Russia defeated Argentina to win bronze.
Results:
Gold: United States
Silver: Spain
Bronze: Russia
Congratulations to all the medal winners!
