'Reality Check': Jacqui Lee's Winner Potential, and Cee Lo's Ridiculous Decisions

TVLine.com's Michael Slezak returns with American Idol Season 6 finalist Melinda Doolittle for an all-new episode of Reality Check, dissecting the week in reality singing competitions.

The hosting duo has seemingly, like most of America, completely given up on The X Factor USA. So this episode goes all-in on The Voice, and the end of the live playoffs. Who were the standouts? Who got thrown under the bus? Did the right acts make it through to the top 12? And who could go all the way? There's a lot of great discussion and disagreement here, as Michael and Melinda differ on some key contestants. It's another fun, insightful episode. Watch the full video below via TVLine:

Thoughts

I had a hard time disagreeing with much of anything this week beyond Michael and Melinda's assertions that Tamara somehow slayed "I Will Survive". It was a great vocal, but there's just nothing anyone can ever do to get me excited about that song, and I don't think she had any chance whatsoever of overcoming that song choice, which leads me into the next point...

I 100% AGREE ABOUT CEE LO GREEN.

He hasn't reached Redfoo on The X Factor Australia levels yet, in terms of being a bus driver who consistently throws his acts under it, but dammit, he's really getting there with some of these song choices. And the worst part is that I don't think he recognizes anything is amiss with what he's doing. He probably thought Kat's and Amber's song choices were in the perfect key for their voices, not realizing that he essentially crafted a disaster-in-waiting. Both girls were better than the performances they turned in last week, but you'd never know it, since Cee Lo's coaching leaves so much to be desired.

With that said, I did have to disagree about the injustice of picking Josh Logan over Stephanie-Anne Johnson. If it were me? Sure, I would have saved Stephanie-Anne, but Josh has considerable potential. The sooner he realizes just how stupid all those ridiculous runs sound, the better off he'll be. I think there's a terrific voice underneath all that melisma, and if he can get it under control, we could have a real dark horse on our hands.

On the subject of dark horses, I'm glad they at least agreed that while Preston showed potential in the past, Will was still the right call from Adam in who to take forward to the top 12. Granted, the problem with Preston's performance was almost entirely due to song choice (much like with Will, actually), but I think even if Adam had given Preston something in his wheelhouse, we'd have gotten the same result. Will just has more to offer, I think. Of course, that's just my opinion. What's yours?

Did the coaches make the right calls? Could Jacqui go all the way? Sound off in the comments!
