Thoughts

I've been trying to figure out why J-Lo has been bugging me so much, and this pretty much summed up why. I love positivity as much as the next guy, but J-Lo takes it a bit too far. She just comes across as a pushover, and I don't think American Idol needs any more pushover judges. Hopefully gets a bit more stern during Hollywood Week, since it doesn't seem like she holds these contestants to the same fairly high standard as the other judges.

With that said, I completely agree with Michael and Melinda on the befuddling Golden Ticket recipients. I can't think of any reason why some of these acts got through over the others. Case in point, Jessica Bassett, whose rejection still bugs me nearly seven days later. It was just such a bone-headed decision to cut her. The only possible reason I could think for why they wouldn't send her to Hollywood is that her style was too weird and she had too unconventional a look. But what the hell does that have to do with her talent? It's not like they've had a habit of always putting through the most stylish contestants.

Ah well, I hope she comes back next year, along with Season 12's Juliana Chahayed. A man can dream. I mean, hey, I crossed my fingers for David Oliver Willis and he came back! So I suppose the lesson here is if you love something, let it go. It just might return for Season 14.

So what do you think about the final American Idol XIII auditions of the season? Which singers should have gone through? Which shouldn't have? Sound off in the comments!
