Ravenswood - Recap - Pilot

Following the annual Halloween episode of Pretty Little Liars came the debut of ABC Family's new spin-off series Ravenswood. The series, starring Tyler Blackburn, attempted to take the creepy status of Pretty Little Liars up a few hundred notches. After completing the episode, I felt like it was the lovechild of the Sixth Sense, The Ring, and ABC Family's other drama series Twisted.

Maybe I'm still bitter by how much time was spent on Miranda's (Nicole Gale Anderson) storyline on Pretty Little Liars but it may have skewed my first impression a bit.

Miranda has come to Ravenswood to escape her foster home. She has an uncle who lives there. He's quite a creeper. He doesn't look much older than she is and he looks like what Lurch would have looked like if he was an undertaker.

Along with Caleb and Miranda, we have Olivia and Luke. They are siblings who have a mother suspected of killing their father. Then we have Remy, girlfriend to Luke. Her father works for the paper and she helps the gang with the history of the town. More on that later.

We've known for awhile that this town was creepy but it's looking like it is straight up haunted. The town was ravaged by a major flood that left bodies everywhere. No one thought the town could recover but here we are. Is the town cursed?

Caleb and Miranda are confused and concerned when they discover tombstones with their names and pictures on them. It gets even weirder when they discover they have disappeared. Does someone not want them to know? This someone may not want them in town at all. Miranda is stalked by a ghost? A demon? Caleb is almost drowned in a tub and.. I'm not seeing how the siblings are relevant just yet but they're already my least favorites.

When Olivia discovers the obituaries of "Old" Caleb and Miranda, she discovers they died in a boating accident with three other teens. This happened after a soldier returned home lucky to be alive. She makes the connection when she realizes her mother, also a soldier, comes home from Afghanistan. No one picks up on the fact that there are now five teens in the car and they all get into an accident and crash over a bridge and into the water.

Did they all just drown? Did they kill them off already? Or is this gonna be like The Sixth Sense and they've been dead all along?

Will you be returning next week to Ravenswood?
