Ratings: 'Modern Family' beats 'American Idol' - 3/28/2013
Update: American Idol adjusted up to 3.2, Survivor up to 2.5
Modern Family had a 3.2 adult rating and was the #1 show on Wednesday.
American Idol 12 was down 13% from last week with a 3.1 rating. This is its lowest rated Wednesday show ever. Both The Voice and Dancing with the Stars beat Idol in the ratings and number of viewers this week.
For a performance show, this is really dire for Idol. It looks like it will go even lower for the next few weeks -- we have not seen the bottom yet. The show should be in the 2's by next week -- which will be in line with The X Factor ratings from just last fall. (Exciting!)
To be honest, there isn't much the show can do to stop the bleeding. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, this is the worst Top 10 the show has ever had. Even if FOX keeps promoting it as one of the best they've had in years, America is letting them know it isn't.
The comparison now is The X Factor in the fall -- because American Idol has fallen below The Voice ratings in the fall (and The Voice season 4 has started in the 4's).
From TVbytheNumbers:

On ABC, Modern Family earned an season low 3.2, down seven tenths from its last original's 3.9. Nashville returned to a 1.5, down a single tenth from its last original's 1.6.
