Ratings: American Idol down 21% from last week, down 4% from last season

Bring on the conspiracy theorists! Why are the ratings down this much for American Idol?

Were fans really that upset that Robbie Rosen and Brett Loewenstern didn't make it? Or was it because everyone knew Ashton Jones was going home? What about the Adam Lambert fans who were supposed to tune in? I'm so confused!

From TVbytheNumbers:

Fox easily won the night, but last night’s American Idol was down 21% versus last Thursday’s two hour episode to a 6.5 adults 18-49 rating. The drop isn’t surprising as last week’s results show announcing the finalists is traditionally one of the bigger episodes. Versus the equivalent telecast last year ‘Idol’ was down only 4% (and actually up 6% in total viewers).
