Rachel McAdams Reportedly Offered Female Lead In 'True Detective' Season 2

True Detective Season 2 already has a hell of a cast so far, with Colin Farrell joining the ensemble and Vince Vaughn taking one of the other lead roles for the season. But the season has been rumored for months to be more female-driven than the first, so the question remained: who will be the female lead for Season 2?

Well, we just might have our answer.

Rachel McAdams has reportedly been offered the female lead for True Detective Season 2, beating out frontrunners that have been rumored to include Jessica Biel, Malin Ackerman, and Elisabeth Moss. HBO has not confirmed the casting yet, but sources tell Variety that it's close to being a done deal.

Apparently, the hold-up on the official signing was the result of scheduling issues, as McAdams was scheduled to begin filming on the Catholic Church sex scandal drama Spotlight. However, HBO was able to work out a scheduling plan that would allow McAdams to tackle both projects.

Taylor Kitsch is now rumored to take the fourth lead role, playing a cop alongside McAdams and Farrell, while Vaughn will play a criminal kingpin whose partner's murder forms the basis of the season's big mystery.

These are some great casting choices, in my opinion, if for no other reason than for how unexpected they are. Can the actors match Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in delivering instantly memorable performances? Season 2 is already shaping up to be a significant departure from the expectations formed by Season 1, as the show moves from a Southern Gothic aesthetic to the drama of California's seedy criminal underbelly. The show doesn't return until some time in 2015, but we're already stoked to see how the season comes together.
