'The Purge' Is Getting a Third Movie

Enjoy the first two films in The Purge franchise? Well, get ready for more.

Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are reportedly developing a third movie in the franchise, with director and writer James DeMonaco returning. No plot specifics have been revealed, but given the overall premise of the franchise, I'd expect a bloodbath. You can't really do a film series chronicling a world where all crime is legal for one night a year without shedding buckets of the red stuff. It's one of the few successful R-rated film franchises in recent movie history, with the first film holding the all-time record for an R-rated original horror movie opening until The Conjuring came along in 2013. So I wouldn't expect Universal to change up the formula.

Collectively, the films cost just $12 million to make, but have grossed an extraordinary $200 million. That's an insane profit for the studios, and reason enough to get a third one up and running.

But what do you think? Is a third installment of The Purge something you'd want to see? Or have they tapped every narrative possibility in The Purge franchise? Sound off in the comments!
