Project Runway - Season 10 Episode 4 - Recap - Women On the Go

Last week, on Project Runway, the designers designed red carpet looks for past Project Runway contestants.  Ven won immunity with his professionally designed look for Kenly, but Raul's poor styling and design choices cost him his spot and he was eliminated from the competition.  The show ended with a cliffhanger about Andrea leaving in the middle of the night.

The conclusion to that dramatic cliffhanger and the winner's and losers of this week's challenge follow in the Season 10, Episode 4 Recap for "Women on the Go."

The morning after the runway, Chris is stressing about pushing Andrea under the bus.  Kooan isn't feeling good.  The designers gather at Michael Kors' flagship store to learn about their next challenge.

Tim tells the designers that Andrea left in the middle of the night and isn't responding to attempts at contact by the show.  The designers think quitting in the middle of the show is totally lame and a bad example for others.  They all agree with Michael that "fashion is not for sissies."

This week's challenge is to create a look for a "woman on the go."  The budget is $150 and the designers will have one day to work on their looks.  Sounds like we're going to see lots of jersey knit dresses this week.

Everyone is noticing that Kooan doesn't seem like himself today.  Many of the designers are having a hard time selecting fabric at Mood.

When they get back to the workroom Chris wants to know what happened with Andrea.  The girls all say they saw her get up and leave, but they thought she was just going for a walk or something.  Chris tells the other designers that he was totally right about telling the judges that Andrea wanted to quit, but he feels really bad about it, as he feels what he said to the judges on the runway may have pushed Andrea into quitting the competition.

While they are in the middle of gossiping about Andrea, Kooan tells everyone that he has an announcement to make.  Dun! Dun! Dun!  He's been thinking about it for three days and he thinks he should leave the competition....right now.  Everyone is shocked.  The other designers try to talk him out of it, but he tells them that he has already made up his mind.  Nathan cries and tells Kooan that he understands, because he would like to quit too, but he's not going to.

Tim comes in and lets them know that Andrea is fine and that she sent the show a breakup e-mail.  Kooan tells Tim that he understands the industry is hard and tough, but he has to find his own way and that is why he is leaving the competition.  Kooan tells the camera that he just feels like the competition isn't right for him and he wants to do things "his own way."  I'm bummed to see Kooan go, because it would have been interesting to see him try and fit his unique perspective into the fashion world, but I guess he has decided to stay in his comfort zone.

Tim comes back in after escorting Kooan out and tells the designers that in the interest of fairness, they have decided to bring back Raul as replacement for Andrea.  Most of the designers at least pretend to be happy he is back, but Ven is pissed and he tells us that Raul is a whiner and he's not happy to have him back.  Raul's bestie Alicia tells us that she loves him, but she doesn't think he has the construction skills to hack it.  With friends like that.....

Dmitry wants to show off his draping skills by doing a dress with only one seam.  The Freegan is very impressed with him.    Tim love's the Freegan's print, but warns him to be careful not to go too hookery with it.  Elena thinks the Freegan is playing too much to what the judges want and not putting enough of himself into it.

Tim is fascinated by Ven's idea, but seems a little unsure of it. Tim warns Gunnar not to over design his dress.  Sonjia isn't impressed with Gunnar's felt skirt at all.  Tim warns Elena about doing the same silhouette yet again, but it looks like she's going to do it anyway.

Tim thinks Buffie is in danger of overworking her designs.  Gunnar thinks her designs are just plain bad.  Tim is worried about Chris, because he thinks he seems "ambivalent."  Sonjia tells us that Chris is a good designer but his work is not innovative.  We're sure getting a lot of opinions from Sonjia this week!  Tim thinks Nathan's look, looks sad and Nathan seems to agree.  Tim's a bit concerned about the proportions on Alicia's design.  Ven tells us that Raul has no POV and everything he does is a mess.  Raul tells us that his biggest problem is time management.

The Freegan is happy that his model has some junk in the trunk, because he thinks it makes the dress look better.  Alicia thinks his construction skills are lacking and Gunnar comments that his dress is so short he can see the model's "fish whistle." I'm starting to like Gunnar.

Melissa and Raul are both stressing about how much work they have left to do.  Chris tells Buffi that her look, looks like resort wear and Buffi is on the edge of a breakdown because she thinks her dress looks shoddy.

The next morning, Buffi is still stressed about her dress.  The Freegan is sad about Kooan leaving, but Dmitry is glad that Raul got a second chance, since he really wants to be there.  Ven is still being really catty about it.  He really doesn't like Raul for some reason!

Chris is trying to help Buffi by offering to give her his black chiffon, because he thinks it would look better with her zebra print than the pink chiffon she is using.  Chris offers to help her, but Buffi doesn't appreciate his offer, because she thinks that would be taking all the Buffi out of it.  Chris overhears Buffi loudly going on about how she's not going to change her design and take the Buffi out of it and apologizes, but Buffi tells him that his feedback really helped her and got her fired up about keeping her pov in her design.

The Freegan is very pleased with his look, but Elena thinks it is too short in the front and that he's a candidate for the bottom three.  Things aren't going well for Raul.  When he fits his pants to the model, they are off by four inches. Uh Oh!

Dmitry is very impressed with Chris' finished look.  Buffi is back to stressing out and having a hard time working with jersey and chiffon, which are both fabrics she doesn't usually use.  Raul had to tack on some leather angles to make up for his error with the fit of his pants.  He runs out of time and ends up just having to grab accessories off the wall right before runway.  This is probably not a good thing, seeing as how part of why Raul was sent home last week was his poor styling choices.

Time for the Runway!

Heidi starts off by telling the designers, yet again, how tough the fashion industry is and expressing her disgust at the wussypants puddin' britches who quit the competition.

The guest judges this week are actress, singer and star of the upcoming ABC show Nashville, Hayden Panettierre and designer Rachel Roy.  I had no idea Hayden was a singer or that she was going to be on Nashville!  I'm kind of excited now because I was planning to watch that one anyway and I love her!  Save the country singer, save the world!

I really like Sonjia's dress.  I also like Alicia's look, though it is a bit plain.  Melissa's look is very dramatic, though it kind of reminds me of a Hijab in an odd way.  Buffi's look is better than I expected it to be, but it still looks pretty cheap.  I think the Freegan's dress is cute, but nothing all that special.  I don't like Nathan's dress at all.  The color is odd and I don't like the silhouette.   I like Dmitry's dress, but I'm not blown away by it.

I'm not digging Ven's look.  I don't like the colors and the fabric seems weirdly bunched.  Raul's is my least favorite.  It looks like a home eco. student sewed it.  Elena's jacket seems very bulky, which I don't like, but  I do kind of like what is under the jacket.  Chris' dress is good, but I agree that it is another very safe design from him.

Gunnar is flabergasted by the top and the bottom.  Melissa thinks maybe Fabio will win.  Really Melissa?

Results:

Top Three:

1. Sonjia - wanted to create a look for a woman that has a lot going on that could be worn a lot of ways

Sonjia - Project Runway

Heidi thinks it is stunning and really likes how she worked the fabric

Michael loves that she didn't make it a black dress and thinks it could go with a lot of different styling choices

Nina loves that it is conservative, yet sexy and could work in any part of the world

Hayden says it is one of her favorites.  She thinks it's beautiful, sleek and sexy.

Rachel thinks you could possibly even wear it front to back and loves the little details.

2. Chris - says his girl has a husband a four year old and his look has to translate all day from the office to dinner with the husband

Chris - Project Runway

Heidi loves it and can't believe that he made this entire outfit for $150

Hayden loves the outfit and she wants the jacket

Rachel thinks he achieved the day to night look and styled it perfectly

Nina thinks it looks polished, easy, comfortable, glamorous and sexy

Michael thinks he nailed it

3. Dmitry - his customer loves dresses.  It is important for her to be able to wear it from day into night.

Project Runway - Season 10 Episode 4 - Recap - Women On the Go

Michael thinks it is the best made garment of the day, but it should have been a brighter color to make it stand out.

Heidi thinks it is nice, but doesn't have enough sex appeal.

Hayden wishes he had gone one step further with the idea.

Nina thinks there is infinite opportunities and that the dress is perfect.

Rachel thinks he has excellent sewing skills and the taste level is there.  The look is safe, but beautiful.

Bottom Three:

1. Fabio - created a look with a woman who is on a day off in mind

Fabio - Project Runway

Michael is disappointed that Fabio didn't put enough of his own look into his design.

Rachel agrees that Fabio didn't put enough of Fabio in it

Heidi thinks if the dress was going to be so short, the jacket needs to be longer.  She thinks the short jacket makes it look like the clothes "shrunk on her body."

Nina thinks it had so much more potential and that it wasn't glamorous enough.

2. Buffi - she loved the print and the color and part of the challenge was to represent themselves as designers

Buffi - Project Runway

Hayden wanted to see something up on the shoulders to pull it together, but she loves the color

Heidi thinks it looks cheap

Rachel says if you have to rely on a belt to make the look, you have failed

Michael thinks it looks like a hair dressing smock and the hem is "poo poo"

Nina thinks Buffi is trying to cover her lack of construction skills with the smock

3. Raul - wanted a fabric that looked like denim, but wasn't.  This was his interpretation of a suit.

Raul - Project Runway

Michael hated it when it first came out, but thinks it is a little better without the belt.

Hayden thinks the crotch looks a little scrunchy.  (Built in camel toe!) She would never wear it.

Nina was happy to see pants, but thinks his jacket is too long.

Rachel thinks he was too ambitious.

Winner: Sonjia - Hayden wants to wear her dress on the red carpet!

Out: Buffi

I completely agree with Sonjia as the winner.  I thought her dress had the best balance of practicality, comfort and glamour.  I'm sad to see Buffi go, because I like her, but her dress was pretty fugly.  I think Raul better bring it next week, because his look was pretty hideous as well.

In the teaser, it looks like there will be a team challenge to design a line for Nina Garcia for professional women.  Team challenges always mean drama, so yay!
