Disney Working on a Stage Version Of 'The Princess Bride'

Apparently the plans for a Princess Bride stage play were only mostly dead in 2007, the project has been reborn through Disney who have brought on some heavy-hitters to make the show happen.

A deal for the production was made flesh by Alan Horn, who played a part in the creation of the original film. As he revealed in a statement, "My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart."

"For all those years and a few more, I’ve been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true. It couldn’t be in better hands than those of the experienced Disney Theatrical team led by Tom Schumacher.

No decision has yet been made about whether the stage version will be a musical or a play, but given Disney's preferences for musicals, we're guessing singing and dancing will be involved.

And for those of you shouting out that such a plan is "inconceivable!" at best, Disney plans to work with the book turned film's original author William Goldman (who also penned the screenplay).
