Poll: Who's Going Home? American Idol 10 Top 5 Performance + Recap

I really enjoyed tonight's American Idol 10 Top 5 performance show... mainly because of 2 people: James Durbin and Jacob Lusk. These two guys truly embody what American Idol is all about: unapologetic desperation.

James was able to connect to his core fans by giving them exactly what they crave: sentimental tears. He cried in 'Without You' as he remembered his family on stage. He is doing the one thing that he knows how to help them which is perform his guts off. He may look ridiculous trying to look like a rock star on a karaoke sing-off show, but his sincerity cannot be questioned. The title is his to lose.

Jacob on the other hand is a fighter. He's been put down so many times -- by the judges, the public, the fans -- but he will not and never give up. He truly embodies the Black Diva Never Dies™. If he can squeeze that last note out of his dying body he will. He did that tonight on 'Love Hurts'. He may need a bit more reverb than the rest of the contestants, but he's going to bring it as if he was singing for his life. And sing for his life he did. 5 out 9 seasons, singer #2 was eliminated in the Top 5. Jacob knows what he is up against -- and he's not going to go quietly.

In other news, Randy Jackson is such a bad actor. After putting Haley Reinhart down for TWO MONTHS from the judges table, he is all of a sudden in shock at how Haley has changed into this "amazing singer". What a joke. Haley has sung very well from the very beginning. She knows it. Her fans know it. The only people who are clueless are the judges.

This is why Simon Cowell is important on the American Idol judges table: You never questioned his intent, because he always came off as honest. Perhaps Simon was manipulative, but you feel that more than ever this season because the judges specially Randy and Steven Tyler cannot pull it off with their delivery. They come across as fake or even worse just oblivious to what they are watching.
