Playoffs!
I don't know, but I'm excited. Excited that the New York Mets have turned their reputations around in just one year and are genuinely contending. They have the best record in the NL with an impressive 97-65, and play the LA Dodgers this Wednesday in Shea Stadium. There was a rather painful to watch losing streak last week, capped off by Pedro Martinez announcing a season ending surgery -- but I'm not phased. The energy these guys have displayed this year with some of David Wright's heroics early in the season, just makes them so different from the bungling Mets of the recent past. Omar Minaya and Willie Randolph have done absolutely a fantastic jobs.
And now the New York Yankees...
... surprise! They have the best record in the AL, again with a 97-65. What the heck? If the Mets had not done so well this year, there may have been more buzz about it, but man, the hate toward Alex Rodriguez in this town, and "everything wrong" with the Yankees is just crazy. You get the best record in the AL, homefield throughout even until the World Series if they make it, your nth division title, and yet, everyone is still disappointed in the Yankees. For some reason, I am too, and I'm just not going with the flow -- I'm still irate over the Carl Pavano fiasco. At any rate, the Yankees have survived a slew of injuries this year, including Matsui breaking his hand, and have emerged on top of the AL. I'll just try to think of that instead of the negative stuff. Hey, the fact that Chien-Ming Wang is pitching Game 1 tonight vs. Detroit is getting me pumped. Bring it! We don't need the Big Unit, all we need is Wang! Is Sheffield still going to do the first base thingy? That worries me.
