Pixar Will Not Release Any Movies in 2014

In news sure to disappoint children and parents alike, Pixar has announced that for the first time since 2005, they will go an entire year without releasing a film, AV Club reports.
The decision almost certainly stems from difficulties faced in the production of The Good Dinosaur, as director Bob Peterson was removed from the film after troubles with the studio while other high level Pixar developers being assigned portions of the film to complete. This has put considerable strain on the studio, whose films are incredibly time-consuming to create.
"We can’t have the amount of labor it takes to do these movies at the same time because it becomes unsustainable economically," said Pixar president Ed Catmull in an interview in June. "But it means if one director has a problem, everybody’s connected to the same bed sheet. You pull one end and it makes wrinkles in the other one. It’s a new problem."
Thus, The Good Dinosaur will now release on November 25, 2015, moving from its original release date of May 30, 2014. Catmull told The L.A. Times that this decision was necessary for the studio to fix the problems that resulted from Peterson’s removal. “Nobody ever remembers the fact that you slipped a film, but they will remember a bad film,” said Catmull.
Unfortunately, this means that Pixar will have to push back its Finding Dory, its sequel to Finding Nemo, from November 2015 to June 17, 2016. There is no word yet on a new release date for Pete Docter’s highly-anticipated Inside Out, which is still tentatively scheduled for June 19, 2015, but it is expected to also be pushed back.
