Phelps Wins Gold - Men's 200m IM - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results
Michael Phelps made more history by winning gold in the 200 IM at the London 2012 Olympics. That's medal number 20 folks! Read on for all the medal results.
They said his star was waning. They said he didn't have that killer instinct anymore. They were wrong. Michael Phelps not only defeated arch rival and team mate Ryan Lochte in the Men's 200m IM, he destroyed him on Lochte's best stroke. Phelps, who normally makes his mark in the butterfly leg of the IM, didn't take the fly out that fast, but he absolutely killed the backstroke leg, actually increasing his lead over Lochte who is a backstroke specialist.
Lochte made a game attempt to come back on the final stroke, the freestyle, but it was too little, too late. Phelps has now won 16 gold medals, 20 overall medals and has become the first person to ever win a gold medal three times in the same event. And, he's not done yet. He still has the 100 fly and the medley relay to go. What a great champion!
Results:
Gold: Michael Phelps - United States
Silver: Ryan Lochte - United States
Bronze: Laszlo Cseh - Hungary
Congratulations to all the medalists!
