Pharrell Williams Addresses His Oscar Nomination - Video

Through all the controversy surrounding the disqualification of Best Original Song Nominee "Alone Yet Not Alone", one important fact has been overlooked: Pharrell Williams is an Academy Award nominee!

An Oscar would pretty much be the perfect cap-off for Pharrell's monstrously successful year, between "Blurred Lines," "Get Lucky," and now "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, which has landed Williams his very first Oscar nomination. In this Google hangout, Pharrell addresses his nomination with Gold Derby editor Rob Licuria. It's pretty insightful, and as a bonus, Pharrell is wearing his awesome Smokey the Bear hat! You can watch the full interview video below:

I couldn't possibly be happier for Pharrell -- unless he actually ends up winning, in which case I'd be even more stoked for the guy. And really, he's probably the most serious threat to "Let It Go" from Frozen, since I don't think U2's song is anywhere near as strong as most people seem to think it is -- although it IS a message song, which worked out pretty well for Melissa Etheridge, who won for "I Need to Wake Up" from An Inconvenient Truth. But I digress.

So do you like Pharrell's chances for Oscar gold? Or is the competition just too stiff? Sound off in the comments! And for a refresher on the song nominees, check our post on the subject: Best Original Song.
