Petition for Weird Al to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show Goes Viral
Could Weird Al Yankovic headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show? Well, if it's up to his fans, the answer is a resounding "Of course, why the hell not?"
A change.org petition created by Weird Al enthusiast Ed Ball has gone viral, receiving well over 50,000 signatures in less than a week. “The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show,” wrote Ball, on the petition's page.
But Ball didn't just stump for Weird Al, he also lashed out at the Super Bowl for some of the other performers they've hired in recent years: “I do not want to sit through another Black Eyes Peas disaster or see Nicki Minaj verbal vomit some lyrics that I cannot understand,” Ball wrote. He added, “And do you want Miley Cyrus?!? Because this is how you will end up with Miley Cyrus!!!”
Yankovic is currently enjoying a massive career resurgence, landing his first Billboard No. 1 album with Mandatory Fun, a ridiculously fun record that features parodies of such hits as Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, Pharrell’s “Happy”, and Lorde's “Royals”.
We'll find out who the headliner is long before Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015 in Arizona, but if you want that performer to be Weird Al, you can sign the petition HERE.
