Person of Interest - Season 2 Episode 2 - Recap - Bad Code

In the second episode of Person of Interest Season 2, “Bad Code,” Reese & Carter fly to Texas to retrieve Hannah Fry’s case file. (She’s the 14-year-old girl that went missing in 1991). Is this girl dead or could she possibly be Root? Was Reese able to track down Root & Finch’s whereabouts?

A 14-year-old girl named Hannah was last seen walking out of a public library on April 15, 1991. I initially thought she ran away from home and/or changed her identity, but it turns out a man named Russell Trent kidnapped her. (He lured her into the car by pulling a classic pedo move: “It’s dark, I can give you a ride home”). Hannah spoke to a fellow girlfriend of hers named Sam at the library the day she disappeared. Sam witnessed the kidnapping from one of the library windows, and naturally called the police thereafter. She also told the librarian—who happens to be Russell’s wife—about the kidnapping, but Mrs. Trent told Sam to shut it. (She was in so much denial about this, and she wanted to protect her husband). It was revealed that 15 years ago, Russell was gunned down after somebody else found out about the kidnapping.

14-year-old Missing Girl: Hannah Fry

Hannah checked out a book from the library the day she went missing. Mrs. Trent has been receiving annual copies of the same book on her front doorstep ever since. She instantly assumed it was Sam delivering the books because this could be her way of avenging her best friend’s disappearance. Also: Detective Carter—who flew out to Texas to solve Hannah Fry’s mystery—hired people to dig up Mrs. Trent’s patio. It turns out Hannah isn’t Root after all: they found the old library book buried underneath the patio. (Hannah passed away). It really surprised me that Hannah wasn’t Root. I was even more shocked to find out that SAM is Root! The writers were clever with this one. I would’ve never guessed it. I’m very thankful that this show’s script is unpredictable. I cannot predict what will happen in the upcoming episodes! This is a true mark of an excellent series.

Root was holding Finch and a man named Mr. Weeks hostage in a Maryland house. (Finch’s friend Nathan sold “The Machine” to Weeks for a dollar). Root killed Weeks after he tried to gun down Finch... Finch also dialed a secret code into a landline house phone (so that Reese could trace his whereabouts). A couple hours later, Reese showed up to the Maryland house, figured out what Finch’s numerical code meant—T.R.A.I.N.S.T.N, and immediately headed to the Maryland train station where Root took Finch. Root unfortunately escaped, but the good news is that Reese found Finch! Reese & Finch are back together again! Happy times are here again!
