Person of Interest – Season 2 Episode 18 – Recap – All In

Tonight, we were treated to another outstanding episode of Person of Interest. Episodes 16, 17, and 18 have been stellar. Has Jonathan Nolan hired new writers for POI? It sure seems like it because these last three episodes put me on the edge of my seat.

Episode 18 kicked off with the most careless character that POI has ever cast in Leon (Ken Leung). While he was getting frisky with a woman named Candy, she handcuffed his wrists onto the bedpost. Then, a group of Nigerian scammers barged in through the bedroom door to reveal that Candy is one of their employees. This is when Leon realized that the woman he was trying to sleep with was actually trying to murder him. Reese (Jim Caviezel) and his dog Bear, however, got there just in time to kick the Nigerian scammers’ asses. By the way, how many times has Reese saved Leon’s life? I’ve lost count.

Leon

Per usual, Finch (Michael Emerson) received another number from the Machine. Lou Mitchell is an elderly gambling addict who has accrued over $320,000 in debt over the last six months. Reese & Finch also found out that he acquired a gambling addiction some-odd years ago, in an effort to pay for his wife’s stem cell research treatment. This treatment was only temporary, however, as his wife Marilyn died of cancer not too long after the operation.

POI: Lou Mitchell

Lou, along with several other senior citizens, is a Regular at the Venus Casino in Atlantic City. When Finch researched the financial history of the other senior citizens, he found out that all of these aforementioned senior citizens are in serious debt as well. Lou and the other senior citizens are actually working for the owner of the Venus Casino, Darien Makris. Makris is also associated with a pharmacy that is owned by Lionwood Enterprises. (He is able to launder money into the casino by using the senior citizens as pawns. Nobody would suspect a thing from an elderly individual purchasing “medicinal drugs” at a pharmacy…). As a result, many of the trashcans inside the casino were filled with empty pill containers.

The perpetrator: Makris

In order to rush Lou out of town, Finch provided him with a bus ticket to Chicago. Though Finch was under the impression that Lou got on the bus, Reese found Lou gambling again inside of the Venus Casino. He returned to the casino to earn back all of the money that Makris took from him. With Finch & Reese’s help, Lou won a huge jackpot of $20,320,000. Thereafter, Makris and his men captured Lou, Reese, Finch & Leon in an attempt to hold them hostage. (Leon pretended to be a playboy millionaire named Jason Bau, whilst inside of the casino).

This didn’t stop Reese from kicking some serious ass. Since his wrists were handcuffed onto the armchair, he used his legs to kick Makris in the groin. Then, he used the chair (that his wrists were handcuffed to) to knock down Makris’ men. Reese is officially a superhero in my book. Is he Superman, Iron Man, or the Incredible Hulk? Which superhero would Reese be?

Back in Manhattan, an excellent NYPD cop named Shamansky was arrested for the possession of drugs and large amounts of money. The head of HR, Quinn (Clarke Peters), instructed Detective Cal (Sterling K. Brown) to plant those items into Shamansky’s home. Carter (Taraji P. Henson) was extremely upset with Cal after she found out that he was the person responsible for Shamansky’s arrest. (This upset her because she was beginning to trust him again. Not only did he save her life in the previous episode, he also saved Finch’s life). Later in the episode, after Quinn murdered Shamansky and his associate, Quinn ordered one of his employees to shoot him in his right shoulder… so that this murder would appear like a “mass shooting.” Aside from the people working for HR, nobody knows that Quinn is the head of HR.
