Person of Interest – Season 2 Episode 13 – Recap – Dead Reckoning
Person of Interest only took a 3-week break, but the hiatus felt longer than that! I felt like I was waiting an eternity for this series to come back on air. In the previous episode, we learned that Kara Stanton (Annie Parisse)—John’s former partner in the CIA—wasn’t dead after all. (She’s just been in hiding). She rammed her truck into the car that housed Agent Donnelly (Brennan Brown), Agent Carter (Taraji P. Henson), and Reese (Jim Caviezel) whilst killing Donnelly and kidnapping Reese in the process. It turns out she kidnapped Reese in order to strap a bomb vest onto his body as well as Agent Snow’s (Michael Kelly). Agent Snow was the person who ordered Reese & Stanton to kill one another three years ago. Due to the fact that they had bombs strapped to their bodies, Reese & Snow had to follow her specific orders.
Reese and Snow
Kara told them to knock out two ATF agents, snatch their uniforms from their car trunk, and then go undercover using their uniforms. She also reported a bomb threat in a nearby building in order for Reese & Snow to enter the building with ease. After they entered a special lab on the 21st floor of the building, Reese lost his phone signal. This particular lab housed a super virus named “Cignus,” which could potentially kill the entire Internet, including “The Machine”… so Reese took this opportunity to erase all the drives (or, so he thought).
Kara came up to the 21st floor to let Reese know that it wasn’t going to be that easy. She inserted an external hard drive into one of the main computers. Finch (Michael Emerson) figured out earlier in the episode that she stole a hard drive from Fujima in order to put an end to cyberspace. Then, she set Reese & Snow’s bomb timers to 5:00 minutes, exited the room, and left them to die. However, she severely underestimated their abilities to escape because they escaped quite easily. Agent Snow took this opportunity to betray Reese—Snow knocked Reese on the head, and fled to the elevator by himself. Agent Carter and Agent Fusco (Kevin Chapman) ran up twenty-one flights of stairs to assist Reese, but Reese told them to leave for the sake of their children.
Reese climbed to the roof of the building, only to find Finch waiting for him there. Then, Reese pointed a gun at Finch to make him stay away. Finch assured Reese that he could diffuse the bomb or at the very least, unlock the timer. Finch found five potential combinations that could unlock the timer, but the phone that was strapped to Reese’s chest only allowed three attempts. Luckily, Finch entered the correct combination on his third try. He diffused the bomb with 0:07 seconds left.
Agent Snow, on the other hand, wasn’t lucky enough as Reese was. He ran into Kara’s car, and hid there until Kara came in. The bomb went off and they both died instantly. The FBI determined that Agent Snow was “The Man in the Suit,” and that Kara was his accomplice. They finally closed up this case.
Kara Stanton
I think Carter, Fusco, Reese, and Finch can only breathe a temporary sigh of relief… because as soon as the FBI realizes that the Man in the Suit is still out there, they will be on the run again. It’s also sad that we’ve lost three characters in Agent Donnelly, Agent Snow, and Kara, but this is probably for the best. If these characters weren’t killed off the show, I don't believe the storyline would be able to evolve or improve.
