Person of Interest - Recap - They Oughta Build It Better

It's the last new episode of Person of Interest this year! It's gonna be a good one!

Read on for the Fall finale of Person of Interest: Season 3 episode 11 "Lethe". Camryn Manheim and Saul Rubinek guest star.

John will not be in this episode much, which is a shame, because he's a casual dresser this week. Any episode where I can watch Jim Caviezel in jeans and a leather jacket is very promising indeed. As soon as he was strong enough to walk, John booked it to Colorado to drink his troubles away in a bar. Not wanting to leave our favorite Man of Mystery alone when he's hurting over Carter, Finch sends Fusco to bring him home. Yeah, that's not going to work. Neither is Fusco threatening to slap some sense into John. Have you met John? He will destroy you, Lionel! However, it gives us a fun fist fight in the rain to watch.

Back in New York, Finch (Michael Emerson) has been ignoring the Machine. Is this how Harold grieves? Root (Amy Acker) encourages him to accept the fact that he has a new number because The Machine is sending them to her instead. Ouch, Harold. You're no longer the Teacher's Pet.

This week's number is that of an already dying man. Guest star Saul Rubinek is playing a hospital patient with a brain tumor and a fleeting memory. A little too fleeting, however. Whatever secrets this guy is liable to spill has him being tailed by the Secret Service. Who is he? What risk does he pose?

Throughout the episode, we're treated to flashbacks of Finch as a child. Growing up, his father developed problems with his memory that cause Harold to want to stay home and take care of him. Finch wanted to use his gift to fix his father's memory. It was his goal in life to create something that could replace memory, something that could think for itself. This is, actually, all very sad. On a happier note, Teenage Harold is kind of adorable.

Back to present day, it turns out that Arthur was with National Security and he is being interrogated for what he knows. Harold knows exactly who would want to do that. That's right, Vigilance is back and they brought guns. Are they the new Big Bad now that HR is gone?

Once they arrive, Arthur becomes confused and refuses to leave with Shaw and his wife to safety. Harold runs in and asks him to come along and..twist! Arthur recognizes Harold! Apparently, they are buddies who go way back to MIT.

Harold sits down with his old friend to ask what he was working on that has put him in danger. "Samaritan" was basically Arthur's version of the Machine. It was shut down by the government many years ago but someone doesn't believe that. Harold looks concerned. Are there two machines out there?

And because this is a Fall finale episode, you just knew another twist was coming didn't you? There's a reason Arthur doesn't recognize his wife. This woman (Camryn Manheim) is an impostor! She's in on the whole thing and wants information on the Machine. Then, Hersh walks in! Ugh, I thought we had seen the last of him. In an even bigger twist, Hersh is revealed to work for this mystery woman.

The episode ends with everyone at gunpoint. What a cliffhanger! Who is this woman and why does she care about the Machine? Why can't they just leave Harold alone? Are there two Machines out there in the world?

I can't wait for the show to come back with new episodes.
