'Penny Dreadful' Renewed For Season 2
Penny Dreadful only recently premiered, but Showtime has decided it wants more.
Showtime has ordered a second season of Penny Dreadful, and has announced the intention to commit to an expanded episode order, increasing the number from eight episodes to ten for season two. The horror thriller stars Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton and Eva Green, and depicts a litany of public domain horror icons from Victorian literature. It sounds silly, but trust us, it's pretty damn great. Hell, you can watch the first episode for yourself.
“The goal here was to see if we could do a genre show a horror show but with all the sophistication and depth of a Showtime show and John Logan ended up being the person to do it,” said Showtime president David Nevins in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "It’s been well reviewed by mainstream critics, it’s giving us a Comic-Con-appeal show. It’s a whole new world as imagined by Logan."
So far, Penny Dreadful is averaging 4.8 million viewers across all Showtime platforms, making this the network’s most-watched new show ever On Demand. Season 2 is expected to begin shooting on location in Dublin for debut in 2015.
