Paul Feig In Talks to Direct All-Female 'Ghostbusters' Reboot
Paul Feig is a popular director for female-centric comedies, scoring a monumental megahit with 2011's Bridesmaids and last year's The Heat. And now, it's looking like he's going back to the all-female formula, if rumors are to be believed.
Feig is reportedly in talks to helm an all-female reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise, from a brand new script and story. However, formal negotiations have yet to officially begin, as Feig and Sony are mostly just having conversations about the possibility for the project to come to fruition.
It wouldn't be surprising if he were to land at least one member of the Bridesmaids cast for the reboot, if he gets the job. In addition to working with her on Bridesmaids and The Heat, Feig will direct Melissa McCarthy in her next comedy, Spy, which is scheduled for Memorial Day 2015.
Is this a good idea though? I can't imagine McCarthy's usual loudmouth persona would be all that welcome in a Ghostbusters movie, although I'd love to see her give the Rick Moranis role a spin. McCarthy is capable of so much more than the roles she's been given, and if she's going to be in this (and I'd argue it's more than likely she would be asked, if Feig gets the directing job), I'd hope it would be for a more interesting role than her norm.
