CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the long-running CBS procedural, is getting another spinoff. And the cast is relying on the lead star of the former Emmy-winning CBS hit Medium.
Patricia Arquette has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming CSI spinoff, which will be set in the FBI's Cyber Crime Division in Quantico, VA. The show will follow a team "tasked to solve high octane crimes that start in the mind, live online, and play out into the real world." Arquette will play Avery Ryan, the special agent in charge of the elite unit.
The series is being developed within the CSI family, as the spinoff is being written and produced by veterans Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony E. Zuiker, Ann Donahue; executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman, and producer Mary Aiken, whose life as a "cyber psychologist" inspired the show.
A backdoor pilot for the spinoff will air later this season on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. This marks the fourth incarnation of the CSI franchise, although the original is the only CSI series still standing, following the cancellations of CSI: Miami and CSI: New York.
The show is looking to premiere in the 2014-2015 broadcast season.
