'Parks and Recreation' Creator Says Next Season Is Likely To Be the Last
SPOILERS FOR LAST NIGHT'S PARKS AND RECREATION, SO BEWARE!
Just last night, Parks and Recreation wrapped its Season 6 finale, and the internet is abuzz with the ending. In many ways, it was the anti-How I Met Your Mother, in that it showed us where certain characters end up, but without factoring in some crazy twist about death or a tiresome relationship that just won't die. In short, the finale shows how Leslie Knope is managing a successful career, triplets, and husband Ben Wyatt...three years into the future.
You could be forgiven for thinking this was the series finale, given how neatly everything was wrapped up. But Parks and Recreation has already been renewed for a seventh season. However, creator Michael Schur is insinuating that next season might be it for the long-running series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Schur declares, "It’s fairly likely that next year will be the last. The natural rhythm of the show and the big creative jump we take at the end of this season certainly suggests that we’re moving in that direction."
When asked how much of the ending is planned out, and whether or not he has an idea in mind for the show's final image, Schur kept it vague:
"Chunks of it are mapped out. We have signposts and stuff, but other parts are wide-open and are very much up in the air. I’m sure that some of the chunks that we felt are mapped out are going to change. We just have a general idea of what is going on in the world, and we have some general ideas for what happens to those people over the course of this future season, but until we really get back in the room, I’d really prefer not to try to commit to anything too soon. It just sort of like shuts up creativity. … I have an idea for the final image, the final scene and the final image of the show, and I have no idea whether that’ll be the final image or not."
So it looks like we'll be leaving Pawnee sooner rather than later. Here's hoping for a series finale as satisfying and touching as last night's season finale. If nothing else, Amy Poehler has made a terrific case for an Emmy win this year with her work. In fact, the series itself should be in the running, as Parks and Recreation has had a one-of-a-kind season worth praising. Just my opinion though. What's yours? Sound off in the comments!
