Oscar Party

I went to an "Oscar Party" last night with my Filipino friends in New York, and I won the $30 pot for guessing the most number of winners correctly. We had Oscar ballots and sat in front of the tv for three hours snacking on low-carb food. My motto: when in doubt, vote for the Lord of the Rings. I was extremely happy that Annie Lennox picked up an award. My only disappointment was that Bill Murray did not win.

I was surprised at one particular Lord of the Rings win however which was for adapted screenplay. All I can think of was the Academy trying to give a message to James Cameron (from Titanic): We're gonna give this film everything we've got and try to sink your arrogant ass. There are now three films which have the most Oscar wins (11): Ben-Hur, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King. And the Hobbits were very gracious so you felt it that the sweep was well-deserved.
