Once Upon A Time - Pilot - Review

I didn't know much about Once Upon A Time but decided to give it a try after reading that it was supposed to be good. I vaguely remembered hearing that there would be Lost easter eggs throughout (which I did notice on the clocktower and a door) so I dvred it.

The story is this. The fairy tales we all know and grew up on are real and have been trapped in Storybrook, Maine where time stands still. They have no idea who they are or what happened to them. The show focuses on real time in Storybrook and a flashback to how the characters were trapped to begin with. An evil queen (from Snow White) casts a curse on the fairy tale land for no reason that I can tell other then she's a bitch.

Rumpelstiltskin foresees that Snow White's child with Prince Charming will return to save them all on her 28th birthday. When they can save only one person, Snow White chooses her child. Cut to real time. A boy is in search of his birth mother. Emma Swan. Blech. Makes me think of Twilight and Pirates of the Caribbean. Emma is Snow White's daughter but has no idea. Her son knows everything that is going on from a book he read and tricks Emma into coming back to Storybrook with him. The Evil Queen is the boy's adoptive mother (and still a bitch) and Rumpelstiltskin is still around and will probably cause trouble later on. When Emma decides to stay, time begins to move forward.

I'm not sure how Emma will play a role in defeating the curse. How long can that particular battle go on? It seems set more for a movie than a tv show. I'm sure they have a few twists in mind.

I thought the pilot was pretty good. I wasn't jumping out of my seat and almost gave up when Prince Charming was killed. However, at the end when we see that he's in the hospital and there is still hope, I changed my mind. I guess like the fairy tale characters, I too need a happy ending to my stories.

Will I watch again? Yes. I may DVR it but I will give the show a chance and so should you.
