'Orange is the New Black' Actress Michelle Hurst Wakes from Coma

After being in a medically induced coma for 16-days following a car accident, Orange is the New Black actress Michelle Hurst has opened her eyes.

The cast is currently fundraising support.

Her family reports that the accident occurred right before the holidays, at which point Hurst (who plays Miss Claudette) was placed in a coma by doctors so they could perform surgery close to her spine.

She is in the midst of recovering while her loyal cast members are raising money to pay her medical expenses.

The fundraising site is happy to report that Hurst "opened her eyes" yesterday (Jan. 16) but that that they "can't send flowers yet because she is in ICU at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital."

All money raised -- over $12,000 at the time of this writing -- will "go through Michelle's sister to help pay for her medical expenses & time off of work."
