Via The Australian:NOVAK Djokovic began his campaign for a third successive Australian Open title in impressive fashion with a straight sets win over Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu at Melbourne Park today.The world No1 was barely troubled by an opponent once ranked as high as 12 when winning 6-2 6-4 7-5 in 102 minutes to set up a second round clash with young American Ryan Harrison.
Djokovic is aiming to become the first man to win three successive Australian Open titles in the open era. He said after his win that he felt fresh after after taking a week off following his appearance for Serbia in the Hopman Cup in Perth.
"I needed some time to recharge my batteries for what is coming up," he said.
Harrison, who needed four sets to defeat Santiago Geraldo, has shown promise in his time on the tour but is unlikely to threaten Djokovic.
Other seeds to progress include former Wimbledon champion Tomas Berdych, tenth seed Nicolas Almagro and one-time Australian Open semi-finalist Fernando Verdasco.
