Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald break up

Another fairytale romance has consciously uncoupled!

American Idol finalist Paul McDonald and Twilight star Nikki Reed have separated and will end their marriage.

They were married back in October 2011 but have been living separately for the past six months.

Interestingly enough, they are still working on their debut album I'm Not Falling which will be released this year.

The couple's statement to PEOPLE:

"After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage. They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations," says a rep for the actress.

"They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, I'm Not Falling, releasing in 2014. They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together."

But they were so madly in love! I thought for sure this was going to last. Sad.
