Nike Designer Confirms Marty McFly's Power Laces Are Coming In 2015

When the Nike MAG launched in 2011, the intention was to cash-in on nostalgia for the sake of charity. Nike had uncannily reproduced the fictional high-top sneakers worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II, and auctioned off 1,500 pairs on eBay. All proceeds were donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. All told, nearly $6 million was raised through the auction.

But the sneakers weren't a perfect copy: they were missing the iconic power laces...

Of course, you could argue that Nike was under no obligation to recreate the power laces for the launch of the shoe in 2011 since, in the film, power laces don't exist until 2015. Which brings us to the good news...

During an appearance at the Jordan Brand's Flight Lab space in New Orleans, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield was asked about the likelihood that we'll see power laces next year:

"Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!" Hatfield enthusiastically declared.

So it looks like we'll be wearing the future on our feet sooner than we ever might have hoped. Hell, given the complete and total lack of flying cars and hoverboards today, 2015 owes us power laces. At least.
