Nigella Lawson divorce papers cite 'unreasonable behavior'
The ten-year marriage between Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi is nearly finalized.
During a brief court hearing Wednesday, a judge granted the spouses a decree nisi, the first legal step toward an official divorce, and while Lawson was not present in court, the celebrity chef's divorce papers spoke volumes, according to a report by Us Weekly. In the document, the former Food Network star cites "unreasonable behavior" as grounds for the divorce. In the official paperwork, both parties agree that their marriage has been irreparably broken. As a result, they will be granted a "decree absolute", which will be issued in roughly six weeks, in accordance with British Law, at which point their marriage will be officially ended.
Lawson and Saatchi made headlines in June after a very public fight at a London restaurant, in which the celebrity chef was photographed with Saatchi's hand around her throat. Lawson moved out of their shared apartment shortly after the photos were released, and is rumored to be moving to Los Angeles to film the second season of reality competition series The Taste, the ABC series on which she serves as a judge.
Though Lawson has largely remained out of the public eye since the incident, Saatchi has taken the opposite approach. Earlier this month, the advertising mogul spoke out about the divorce in a statement to the Daily Mail: "This is heartbreaking for both of us as our love was very deep, but in the last year we have become estranged and drifted apart. The row photographed at Scott's restaurant could equally have been Nigella grasping my neck to hold my attention -- as indeed she has done in the past."
