Nigel Lythgoe's Niece Charlotte Dujardin wins Gold - Individual Dressage - London 2012 Olympics - Results
It was time for horse dancing again at the London 2012 Olympics. Steffen Peters was the lone American to qualify for the individual competition (Romney's horse didn't make it, if you were wondering). Nigel Lythgoe's niece Charlotte Dujardin turned in a spectacular ride to bring home the gold for Team GB.
This is So You Think Your Horse Can Dance:
In the individual Grand Prix Freestyle event, the top 18 individual horse & riders from the team dressage competition would take to the ring to compete for gold, silver and bronze.
In this event the riders don their fancy riding outfits and prance around on their horses in a routine set to music. Riders receive marks for technical merit and artistic impression.
Uncle Nigel's pride and joy would be the last rider to go. Reigning world champion Adelinde Cornelissen of the Netherlands was sitting atop the leader board when Charlotte began her ride. She would turn in a nearly flawless performance, with just one small bobble at the end to earn a score of 90.089, which was good enough to earn another gold medal for Great Britain.
I'm not a huge fan of dressage, but I actually enjoyed Dujardin's routine, which was set to musical selections from a number of famous movie sound tracks. She did a great job of creating an interesting routine, that actually appeared to interpret the music. I'm sure Uncle Nigel is very proud. Team GB also took the bronze medal. Congratulations to Team GB!
Results:
Gold: Charlotte Dujardin - Great Britain
Silver: Adelinde Cornelissen - Netherlands
Bronze: Laura Bechtolsheimer - Great Britain
Congratulations to all the medalists!
