Nick Pulls Five 'Legend of Korra' Episodes, May Be Moving Show Online

Despite being one of the better series on its schedule, The Legend of Korra has been far from Nickelodeon's most successful. Since its season premiere on June 27, The Legend of Korra has been plagued by disappointing ratings, falling as low as 1.1 million viewers. This has now prompted Nickelodeon to start pulling episodes altogether.

Book Three was scheduled to air 13 episodes, but Nick is pulling one of this Friday's episodes, in addition to all four episodes originally scheduled to air on August 1 and 8. Granted, “The Terror Within” -- the eighth episode of Book Three -- will still premiere this Friday at 8:00 PM ET/PT. But the network has not revealed when the five pulled episodes will air. Presumably, an announcement will be made during the show's Comic-Con panel on Friday.

Co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino have posted the following image to their Tumblr and Facebook pages insisting that The Legend of Korra isn't dead, and that an official announcement will be forthcoming:

DiMartino would go on to explain in a Facebook post that the show will likely be heading online.

“The rest of the season will be available from various sites online,” he wrote. “We’ll let you know when we have more details.”

He would follow this up in a subsequent post, stating that while the change is “a disappointing development,” the fourth season of The Legend of Korra has completed pre-production and is thus not at risk of being canned.

“As long as you all are able to see the show in some capacity, I’m grateful,” DiMartino wrote, before adding, “And honestly, you’re all watching it online anyway, right?”

Here's hoping the show finds a way to get back on its feet, especially since Nickelodeon has been in the canceling mood.
