Nick Cannon is sticking up for wife Mariah Carey, who has not only caught a lot of flack for her judging on the 12th season of American Idol, but has also made headlines as a result of her feud with fellow judge Nicki Minaj.
In an interview on CBS's The Talk (embedded below), Cannon was critical of FOX and Idol producers for stoking the flames of the feud between Carey and Minaj.
"It’s kind of unfortunate," said Cannon. "When you see someone like my wife, who tries to remain classy and tries to take the high road, it feels like everybody else around it — including the network and the producers — feed into this whole sound bite drama. It feels like it lacks substance."
He would go on to describe the situation as “unfortunate,” saying that viewers are tiring of on-air bickering on reality talent competitions. "I think America in general is tired of seeing the mean judges and people be mean to people. They’re over it."
The America's Got Talent host then took a shot at FOX's reality singing competition, declaring, "In the book of Mariah Carey, American Idol will be a footnote."
This is hardly the first time Cannon has spoken up about his wife's stint on Idol, as he recently told Los Angeles-based radio station KTLA that Mariah's future with the series is uncertain.
"It’s a time when she has so many amazing things going on in her life ... no one wants to be a part of something unstable."
According to Cannon, Mariah tried warning FOX that working with Minaj probably wasn't going to be a good idea.
"My wife foreseen all of this. She tried to tell the network, 'I dont think this is going to work.'"
