Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey Divorce Is Reportedly a 'Done Deal'
Well, it's looking like it's pretty much over between Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey.
TMZ is reporting that the couple has not only been separated and living apart since May, they've also been in ongoing property settlement and custody agreement negotiations since then. According to sources, the divorce is basically "a done deal."
Granted, Nick and Mariah still have contact, but only when the America's Got Talent host swings by the NYC digs to visit his children, twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott.
So what caused all the trouble that's led to this now-impending divorce? Apparently, the origin of all the bitterness stems from a boneheaded interview Nick gave back in March on Big Boy's radio show (the full interview is embedded below), in which he played a game of "Name 5 Celebrities You've Slept With". Nick listed 5 names, and Mariah absolutely lost it when she discovered that one of those five was Kim Kardashian. Why Nick would feel this was a smart thing to do is beyond me, although I'm equally puzzled by the vehemence of Mariah's reaction. I get that Kim isn't exactly on everyone's hot list, but is there heat between the two? It seems like it'd make more sense to tear into Nick for making such an ill-planned display on the air, rather than the specifics of which particular celebrities were on his list of five. (For those wondering, the other four names were Mariah Carey, Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, and Selita Ebanks)
Whatever Mariah's reasons, she reportedly spent weeks tearing Nick a new one, feeling absolutely humiliated. And he made it about a thousand times worse when he went on Howard Stern and revealed that Mariah would not have sex with him until they were married (although this wasn't the first time Nick admitted this. He said as much on the Big Boy show). This was essentially the death blow to the relationship.
Of course, problems apparently had always been there, as Mariah has felt Nick is more committed to his work than to their family, since he's loaded up his schedule when, realistically, they don't need the money. Yet she's less mad about how his work keeps him away from her, and more incensed that it's keeping him away from his children. But sources say it's not all a one-way street in the ill-will department, as Nick loves to work, and has generated income to the tune of $75 million for his family since 2011. Moreover, he feels Mariah has become "impossible" after surrounding herself with nothing but "yes men", which he feels makes her incapable of handling it when he disagrees with her.
In short, this marriage has basically devolved into a War of the Roses situation, and it stands to get uglier before it gets any better. Hopefully, Nick and Mariah are mature enough to remain civil around each other, for their kids' sake. But an acrimonious divorce is the stuff of lifelong grudges, and this sounds like a divorce that's about as bitter as they come.
