New Girl - Control - Recap

Last week, New Girl took on a serious life-changing issue (cancer), but this week, the show returns to it's crazy lighthearted antics. The topic? Control. Schmidt--who seems to control the apartment--gets a smack in the face and finally lets go.

In huge part to Jess, Schmidt goes from a neat freak to a street freak. Yup. It all begins when him and Cece are off hooking up, and she accuses him of not being a marine. Hah. Back at the apartment, Jess confronts him about wanting to add a nice little hutch cabinet to the living room. She wants to feel part of the dysfunctional family. Schmidt, of course, freaks out.

The next day, Jess completely updates the apartment--which only causes Schmidt to spiral out of control. It ends with him totally upsetting the hutch cabinet all over the hardwood floor. Oh snap. It seems Jess' stand against him is all in vain. Next, she decides to take him down to the boardwalk to ride bikes, eat ice cream, and be frightened by a male Statue of Liberty. It's not long before Schmidt is mesmerized by the female species beating drums. Needless to say, he finally lets loose...and goes shirtless!

It's too good to be true. Jess has upset the delicate ecosystem of the apartment. Now, there's no one to clean or care about general personal hygiene. Also, Schmidt has become one of those crystal-necklace-wearing freaks. "I made you guys necklaces," he adorably declares.

Meanwhile, Winston and Nick have a discrepancy over poker money. Nick owes him $487--which only develops into a full on battle over finances. In the park, Winston presents him with a letter addressing the need to rid "the dead of money" or something like that. He's willing to call it $200 even and wipe Nick's slate clean.

Later on, Nick and Winston tag team grocery shopping with $100. Quite simply, this escalates into a full on slap fight in the check out line. I wanna be part of this group. Ya dig?

Jess then tracks Schmidt down to the beach and confesses that she made a huge mistake trying to change him. They have an intervention. Schmidt has a serious problem. Bribing him with jeans, she convinces him to return to his old-wonderful-uptight ways...and it's glorious.

The episode comes full circle with Cece "breaking" into the apartment to get a piece of Schmidt. End Scene. Wham!
