New 'Frozen' Animated Short Coming in Spring 2015

Disney is looking to keep the universe's love affair with Frozen alive.

Walt Disney Animation Studios will release Frozen Fever in Spring 2015. This new animated short will take us back to the Kingdom of Arendelle by featuring Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in a new story that centers on Elsa trying to organize a royal celebration now that her ice-fueled powers are no longer a secret to the kingdom.

Not only will the original voice actors return, but the short will bring back the film's Oscar-winning creative team, from directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, "Let It Go" songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Also returning is producer Peter Del Vecho.

It's unknown which movie the short will be attached to, but it's likely that Frozen Fever will play in front of Disney's upcoming live-action Cinderella film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 13. The film, which will star Downton Abbey's Lily James in the title role, Game of Thrones vet Richard Madden as the Prince, and Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, seems like a perfect fit for a whimsical short centering on royalty. If nothing else, it would serve to illustrate how Disney fairy tales have changed over the years, showcasing a more traditional fairy tale romance alongside a fairy tale that privileges sisterly love over romance.

Hopefully, this also means we get a new song or two. I love "Let It Go" as much as the next guy, but it's time for a new ballad for everyone to sing at karaoke Tuesdays.
