Netflix's 'Marco Polo' Gets Premiere Date + Teaser Images (PHOTOS)

Netflix is moving forward with its first historical drama, and it's promising to be a steamy one.

Netflix announced that Marco Polo will premiere on December 12th. The series stars Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as the world-renowned explorer, who adventures into the wilds of China in the 1200s, "a world replete with astonishing martial arts, sexual intrigue, political skullduggery and spectacular battles." That sounds a whole lot cooler as a prospective series with this title than "the story of how kids cover their eyes in the pool and shout out the name of an 800-year-old explorer."

The cast includes a colorful assortment of character actors, including Prometheus star Benedict Wong, Cloud Atlas alum Zhu Zhu, and Skyfall vet Tom Wu. You can check out the first five images from the hotly-anticipated series below:
