Netflix Officially Revives 'Longmire' for Season 4

After campaigning like hell to get their beloved show resurrected, Longmire fans have cause for celebration: Netflix has picked up the show for a fourth season, saving the series from cancellation after A&E axed it back in August.

Longmire will return for a 10-episode fourth season, which will premiere in 2015 in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Lead stars Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff are confirmed to return, although it's uncertain right now if the entire cast will be coming with them. The series, which centers on Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire (Taylor), features a cast that includes Battlestar Galactica alum Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley. It's one of the stronger casts of any crime drama on TV, and could be argued as part of the reason for its massive success. It drew the largest audience of any A&E original scripted drama, and only got axed because A&E felt the show wasn't enticing to advertisers due to its older-skewing audience.

Netflix was the logical home for Longmire after its cancellation by A&E, considering that the streaming service already has the rights to the series for its library as part of a deal with Warner Bros. In addition, a streaming service like Netflix doesn't have to worry about catering to advertisers the same way a cable network like A&E has to.

“When Warner Horizon Television came to us with the idea for a new season of Longmire, we were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix VP of Original Content. “We are thrilled to help continue Walt Longmire’s story for his large and passionate following.”

Production on the new season of Longmire is expected to begin in March. Congrats to Longmire fans on their hard work and dedication in proving to naysayers that the show was still worth a pickup.
