NBC's Next Live Stage Production Is 'A Few Good Men'

We have no guarantee that Peter Pan Live! will even be as big a success this holiday season as The Sound of Music Live! was last year. But NBC is already looking ahead to its next live stage adaptation.

NBC is reportedly looking to stage a live version of A Few Good Men, the 1992 film starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. The network is currently in talks with the play's author, Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin, whose career in the spotlight basically kicked off after this play was adapted for the stage in 1989.

The play, and the Oscar-nominated film, centered on a court martial in which two Marines stand accused of killing their brother-in-arms. No word on casting or premiere date. Peter Pan Live!, starring Allison Williams and Christopher Walken, airs on Thursday, December 4, making this the second year in a row where a family musical has anchored NBC's holiday event programming. So it's virtually inconceivable to me that NBC would mess up what could be a good thing by doing away with musicals for the holiday, and replacing it with a military legal drama. But it's hard to know what the plan would be, since it's still in its embryonic stages.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who produced both The Sound of Music Live! and Peter Pan Live!, are on-board the project, having initially suggested adapting the show to NBC Entertainment head Bob Greenblatt. I'm much more invested in NBC's live musicals, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited for this. There are few things like live drama, and if they manage to get the right cast for this, A Few Good Men could be among the best live productions of the TV season.
