NBC Renews 'The Night Shift' For a Second Season

In a rare victory for the network's summer lineup, NBC has renewed The Night Shift for a second season.

The network has ordered 14 new episodes of the medical drama, which premiered in May to an impressive 7.8 million viewers, becoming the third most-watched drama on NBC this season among total viewers after The Blacklist and Chicago Fire. And it's maintained its strong numbers in its Tuesday night time slot following America’s Got Talent, essentially securing its spot as the number one new scripted series on network and cable this summer in the key 18-49 demographic. In addition, The Night Shift is now the most-watched summer drama for NBC in 14 years, bringing in a staggering 6.9 million viewers per episode. Put plainly, The Night Shift is a hit. So it's only natural that NBC increased the episode order from eight to fourteen for season two.

Now, if only my late, beloved Camp or the still-yet-to-be-renewed Twisted could have pulled in Night Shift numbers. Sigh...
