So who will be named the top cultural personalities of 2014? Well, we have a year to wonder about all that.
NBC, along with PEOPLE and Dick Clark Productions, has officially announced that it will air “The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards” in late 2014. The two-hour special will honoring the top cultural forces of the year.
The decision to base an awards show on PEOPLE is due in large part to the magazine's continued relevance in an age that privileges online coverage over print journalism. The magazine still reaches more than 53 million consumers each week, after all.
“The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards” will give out honors in a variety of newly-created categories meant to capture the year in pop culture, including the Biggest Phenomenon of 2014 and Most Popular Person, the show’s top honor of the night. Other awards include Most Stylish Person, Funniest Person, Sexiest Woman of 2014, a special fan-voted award and more. In addition, the show will feature performances from the most exciting and influential artists of the year, along with an entire host of celebrity presenters.
"There is no better barometer of the cultural events and top personalities of the world than PEOPLE magazine," said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. "This awards show will bring to light all who have broken through the clutter to make their voices heard throughout the year."
“We are thrilled to be partnering with dick clark productions and NBC on ‘The PEOPLE MAGAZINE Awards,’ which will provide a snapshot of the most compelling and talked about people and pop culture topics that grabbed our attention and drove the conversation throughout the year,” said Larry Hackett, Editor, PEOPLE magazine.
“People magazine is the most influential celebrity and entertainment news vehicle in America, making them the perfect partner for us to create a year-end awards show recognizing the year’s best and most talked about people across, film, television, music, sports and the social landscape,” said Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions.
