NBC is not only looking to make viewers laugh, but to honor those that can make viewers laugh.

The network will air the American Comedy Awards for telecast in May 2014. The awards show will honor those who have made a considerable mark in both film and television over the past year, in addition to paying tribute to some of comedy’s most beloved personalities. The telecast will also acknowledge the work of stand-up comedians.

The awards show, created by George Schlatter and produced by Don Mischer Productions, will be executive produced by Emmy Award winner Don Mischer, Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare.

"For all of the award shows on television not one is devoted to comedy, and that's not so funny. So we're thrilled to be part of a show that will celebrate the community of talented, innovative people who make us laugh each and every day," said Mischer.

“We all love a good laugh and the 'American Comedy Awards' will be full of gut-busting material from the best comedians in our business,” said Paul Telegdy, President Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. “With creative genius Don Mischer at the helm, get ready for a night of great hilarity. No joke.”

Mischer is a 15-time Emmy winner and has directed or produced some of the biggest live events on television, including the Olympic Opening Ceremony, the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl halftime show.

The American Comedy Awards will air in May 2014.
