Oscar-winner Natalie Portman has signed on to play Lady Macbeth opposite Michael Fassbender in an upcoming big-screen version of Macbeth, reports ScreenDaily.
Reportedly, Portman has long wanted to tackle the challenging role, to the extent that she considered joining a stage version of the show. In addition, the Oscar winner was interested in another collaboration with the talented Fassbender after the two recently wrapped production on Terrence Malick’s latest film concerning the Texas music scene. The film is set to begin shooting later this year.
The Shakespeare classic follows the ruthless ambitions of a Scottish lord who seizes the throne with the help of his scheming wife -- and three witches.
Snowtown’s Justin Kurzel will direct the film, which will be produced by See-Saw, the company behind the Oscar-winning film The King’s Speech and Fassbender's NC-17 thriller Shame. Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff will script the feature, which has been one of the most in-demand properties of the moment.
