'Mulaney' and 'Bob's Burgers' Switching Time Slots
FOX has announced that one of its struggling new comedies will be switching time slots with one of its most popular cult hits.
Freshman sitcom Mulaney will be moving from its 9:30 PM time slot to the 7:30 PM slot. Bob's Burgers will be taking over Mulaney's post-Family Guy spot, and will reap the benefits of whatever lead-in momentum Family Guy provides these days, which I'm guessing must not be much considering the numbers Mulaney has been doing. The most recent episode of the series clocked only 2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo. So while the show hasn't been officially canceled, it does seem like FOX is cutting bait on the show. Case in point, Mulaney will be preempted this Sunday by football coverage, and will not be seen again until Nov. 23. This, coupled with FOX's decision to reduce the show's episode order from 16 to 13 suggests that Mulaney is not long for this world.
Great news for Bob's Burgers though. Honestly, that show deserves a much larger audience than it's getting. It's one of the best comedies in FOX's lineup. Hell, it's one of FOX's best shows, period. So this is encouraging news, even if I feel kind of awful for John Mulaney, a comic I really like whose show I really don't.
