Modern Family - Up All Night - Recap

(Here's Desi's recap from tonight's episode of Modern Family: Up All Night)
Modern Family was hilaaaarious tonight, from start to finish. I had forgotten in the off-season how much I liked this show.
The kids started the episode off with interviews where they shared the most irritating thing their parents say to them. Manny thinks its that they say he "wears too much cologne" and that it's inappropriate for him to be attracted to his teacher while Luke is annoyed by his parents suggestion that he "stop talking black." The girls complain that they are told to act more like an adult and Haley tops it off by saying her parents warn her that "that's how girls end up dead." Thank Jesus I never heard any of that. Alex makes a point later, though: "do they mean adults I see in the world, or adults in my family?" Their behavior in this episode is likely not what her parents would want.
Phil has pains in his abdominal region, and they all try to convince him to call 911. He says that they aren't concerned about his health and instead want to see the hot firefighters, but when he tries to go to bed, he finally agrees. He calls his kids around to apologize for not fixing the step as Claire dresses up for the hot firemen, and Luke decides to come clean, confessing that their former nanny was deported because of something he'd done.
Jay is getting ready to take his family out to Benihana as a truck pulling a boat comes up the driveway. It's Manny's real dad, Javier, a day late to pick up his son. Jay hates Javier and is less than enthused when Gloria off-handedly mentions that he'll be staying with them for a few days. As they try to sleep that night, Jay can hear his pool table being used, and he gets up to find Javier helping himself to a game. Manny eventually joins them, and Jay starts to warm up to Javier as the trio go off in the middle of the night to play some baseball at some major stadium.
And finally I am reunited with my favorites, Cameron and Mitchell. They're trying to train Lily to put herself to sleep by not going to check on her cries. Cameron isn't as good at this as Mitchell is, though, and Cameron finds them in the middle of the night, watching Scarface. They finally put her back in the crib and Cameron runs in and out a few more times while Lily cries. On one trip, Mitchell is waiting in the room and he chases Cameron out with a tiny chair, like a lion tamer would do. "I'm like a mother bear: when I hear my cub cry I have to run to her!" Quote of the week for sure.
As Manny falls asleep at the breakfast table, Gloria finds out that his dads have kept him up all night. She tries to corral him into the car to go to school as Javier pulls up again, this time with a motorcycle for Jay. She sarcastically says they should take Manny with them, and everyone starts yelling at each other. I have never loved Gloria more than her Colombian yelling in this scene.
At the hospital, Claire apologizes to Phil as she wheels him out for dressing up for the firemen, saying that she's tired of being in frumpy mom clothes all the time. They roll up next to a hot blonde who apparently knows Phil. She introduces herself and says that Phil had been entertaining her hot family with magic tricks all afternoon, and suddenly Claire doesn't feel so bad. At home, he tries (and fails at) a trick on Cameron.
This week's episode was great and the only complaint I have, again, is Phil. He is just so irritating, and maybe it's an issue I have with men his age or men his name but man. He gets on my nerves.
