Modern Family - The Old Wagon - Season Premiere Recap
Our favorite families are back with enough dysfunctional behavior to fill up an hour. This half hour business goes too fast!
Men are notorious car hoarders. Phil is no different but he finally gives in to Claire's complaining about their old '83 station wagon and agrees to sell it. It may be filled with memories but it's still a piece of junk. I miss station wagons. Sure they were the size of a house but they were classy. Phil uses his AMAZING salesmanship to secure a new owner for the car and the family starts to clean it out. Claire gets upset after going down memory lane and remembering all the good times she had with the kids and the car. Phil then surprises her with a family roadtrip picnic with the kids to cheer her up. Fast food, Luke, a broken car and the top of a mountain really aren't a good combination. Luke threatens to barf after inhaling some greasy onions and the family scrambles to get out of the car. Safely out of vomit's way, they watch as Phil forgets to set the parking brake and the wagon rolls into some trees.
Gloria is also finding it hard to let go. When Manny shows some interest in a girl from his school, she starts to feel replaced. Manny's new girl may be a kid, but she's still kind of a b*tch. Or rude at least. Who would refuse Gloria's empanadas?? She balks at Gloria's chocolate milk and insists salt be added and criticizes Manny's clothing choices. Okay, seriously? Is salt and chocolate milk an actual recipe? And come on now. A maroon blazer is obviously stylin'. You can't keep Manny down though and he soon finds himself chatting up another girl from history class. Go Manny.
And now my favorite couple. Cam and Mitchell decide to build one of those backyard castles for Lily. Knowing only this I would have thought Cam would be the one to not be so swift with a hammer but I would be wrong. Cam is actually terrified of Mitchell acting like Tim the Tool Man and recruits Jay to help save him. Mitchell shouldn't ever be left with a nail gun and easily decapitates innocent plants with a saw. When Mitchell realizes the others are trying to keep him away from the castle he decides to do it without them. He succeeds in locking himself inside with a bird. We all know how much Mitchell loves birds
