'Modern Family' Star Sarah Hyland Gets Restraining Order Against Abusive Ex-Boyfriend

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has been granted a temporary restraining order against her former boyfriend of five years, Matthew Prokop. According to Hyland, Prokop was abusive throughout the entire relationship, going as far as to pin her against a car and choke her while calling her a "c--t".

According to court documents, Hyland said, "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."

The relationship was reportedly so toxic that Hyland sought help from her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen, who plays her mother on the Emmy-winning ABC comedy. Apparently, Hyland asked Bowen to come over to her house to help "peacefully end the relationship." However, once Bowen arrived at the house, Prokop "ran outside into the backyard and began screaming" and threatened to burn Hyland's house down, before throwing a lighter at her.

Following the end of the relationship, Prokop allegedly "bombarded [her] with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats."

Although Prokop went to rehab last month for treatment over his severe mental state, it was actually the rehab facility that suggested Hyland get the restraining order due to their patient's uncertain mental health.

Hopefully, Hyland can make a clean break from Prokop, once and for all. Nobody needs that kind of instability in their life.
